The EC145 - (now Jupiter HT1, and also known as the H145) is a twin-engine aircraft.

The Jupiter HT Mk.1 provides advanced helicopter training with cutting-edge digital avionics that enhance safety and situational awareness. It prepares aircrew for maritime, mountain, and search and rescue missions.

Role

The Airbus Helicopters BK117 D2 (Jupiter HT Mk1) is used by No 1 Flying Training School to train helicopter crews for the Royal Navy, British Army, and RAF under the UK Military Flying Training System (UKMFTS). Since April 2018, helicopter training has been conducted at both RAF Shawbury and RAF Valley through Ascent Flight Training.

Capability

The Jupiter HT Mk1, like the Juno HT Mk1 (H135), has introduced digital technology to the helicopter training program. Both the Juno and Jupiter cockpits feature the latest Airbus Helicopters avionics, improving safety and situational awareness. The aircraft are used by 202 Squadron at RAF Valley, which provides maritime, mountain, and search and rescue training to helicopter crews.

Roles

History of the Jupiter HT Mk1

In 1977, Germany's MBB and Japan's Kawasaki teamed up to design the BK117, a twin-engine, multi-role helicopter with twin clamshell loading doors. The first prototype flew in 1979, and deliveries began in 1983.

Eurocopter, after merging with DASA, worked with Kawasaki to develop improved versions, leading to the EC145 (Jupiter HT1) in 1999, combining the BK117's rear section with the EC135's cockpit. The EC145T2, introduced in 2011 with new engines and a Fenestron, later became the H145, and seven Jupiter HT1s are currently in service.
